The Agency for Immigration and Administrative Mobility (AIMA) has taken an important step in modernizing immigrant documentation in Portugal. Citizens holding a CPLP Residence Authorization may now exchange their old permits for the new European Union standard residence card.
This change brings benefits, offering greater practicality and security for immigrants already living in Portugal.
If you hold a CPLP permit and are wondering how this exchange works and what steps you should take, continue reading.
What Changes With This Exchange?
The new documentation system was created to replace the previous CPLP paper permits, ensuring greater organization and alignment with European standards.
Here are the main updates:
Standardized residence card: The new document will be issued in physical card format, replacing the previous A4 paper documents. This means improved security and durability.
Extended validity: The new residence permit will be valid for 2 years, providing greater stability for immigrants.
Prepared service centers: AIMA officers have been trained to carefully verify all required documentation at the time of exchange.
Important Notice
The portal for new applications has not yet been opened. Individuals who already hold a CPLP Residence Authorization may proceed with the exchange. However, new applicants must wait for the full regulation to be published.
